Our Approach to Therapy
You can start with what feels difficult right now
Sometimes the reason for seeking therapy is clear. Other times, it’s harder to name.
You might feel disconnected from yourself or someone you love. You may keep finding yourself in the same emotional or relationship patterns, even when you understand where they come from. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, burned out, carrying experiences that still affect you, or going through a change that has made familiar ways of coping feel less effective.
You don’t need a diagnosis, a perfectly defined goal, or an understanding of different therapy approaches before reaching out.
You can begin with what you’re experiencing. We can help you figure out what kind of support and which therapist may be the right fit.

Find therapeutic support that fits what you’re navigating
Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Our therapists bring different areas of expertise while sharing a commitment to relational, affirming, and culturally responsive care.
For individuals
Individual Therapy
A space to better understand yourself, work through emotional patterns, and find new ways of responding to what life asks of you.
Individual therapy can support concerns including anxiety, depression, reproductive care therapy, ADHD masking and burn out, ADHD skill building, ADHD executive function management, Autistic burnout, grief and loss, AuDHD burnout, sexual orientation exploration, gender identity, relationships, boundaries, occupational burnout, self-esteem, career and major life transitions.
For couples
Couples Therapy
Relationships can get caught in patterns that leave both people feeling unheard, alone, defensive, or unsure how to reconnect. Couples therapy can help partners understand what happens between them and build greater emotional safety.
We welcome couples across relationship stages, identities, and structures.
For trauma
Trauma Therapy
Trauma can shape more than memories of what happened. It can affect how safe you feel, how your nervous system responds to stress, how you relate to other people, and how you experience yourself.
At Grayslate we use EMDR and Brainspotting therapy for trauma and offer a safe and compassionate space to work with the effects of trauma without reducing you to what you’ve lived through.
For the neurodiverse
Neurodivergent Therapy
Neurodivergent people are often asked to adapt to environments that were not designed with their needs in mind. Our neurodiversity-affirming therapy supports ADHD, autism, AuDHD, burnout, masking, sensory needs, executive-function challenges, emotional regulation, relationships, and late identification.
The goal isn’t to make you appear more neurotypical. It’s to understand how your brain works and help you build a life that works with it.
More ways we can support you
Grayslate also offers Group Therapy, Neuropsychological Testing, and Sports & Performance Psychology.
You are unique
Therapy should understand the context you live in
No one enters therapy without a history.
The way you experience yourself and your relationships can be shaped by attachment, family, culture, race, gender, sexuality, neurotype, disability, community, trauma, and the systems you have had to navigate.
Good therapy makes room for that complexity.
At Grayslate, our approach is neurodiverse-affirming, LGBTQIA+ affirming, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. Rather than assuming there is one correct way to communicate, relate, regulate emotion, or move through the world, therapy can help make sense of what your particular experiences mean for you.
That also means staying curious about strengths alongside struggles. Behaviors that look confusing from the outside often make more sense when we understand what they have protected, communicated, or helped someone survive.
You shouldn’t have to leave important parts of yourself outside the therapy room in order to receive support.

What’s really going on
Understanding the pattern beneath the problem

Grayslate’s team of therapists are relational and work from psychodynamic and an attachment-based perspective, including Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals (EFIT), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).
Rather than focusing only on stopping a behavior or resolving the argument happening today, this work looks beneath recurring patterns: What happens when you feel hurt, threatened, unseen, or disconnected? What do you do to protect yourself? And how might those protective responses unintentionally make it harder to get what you need? Our therapists also help deepen your insight into how you view yourself and others and the impact of these views on your self-identity and the way you relate to others. Understanding these patterns can create room for different emotional experiences and different ways of relating to yourself and to other people.
Our therapists may also integrate other evidence-informed approaches according to each client’s needs, history, and goals.
Relationships don’t exist in a vacuum
Every relationship is shaped by the people in it and by the worlds those people have lived in. Alongside general couples therapy, Grayslate offers specialized relationship support that gives important differences and identities space in the work.
Neurodiverse Couples Therapy
For couples navigating ADHD, autism, different processing styles, sensory needs, executive-function differences, or mixed-neurotype dynamics.
LGBTQIA+ Couples Therapy
Affirming relationship therapy that doesn’t assume heterosexuality, cisgender identity, monogamy, or conventional gender roles as the default.
Interracial & Intercultural Couples Therapy
Space to explore how race, culture, family, identity, power, and different lived experiences can enter a relationship.
Marriage Counseling
Support for married partners navigating established patterns, resentment, emotional distance, trust, intimacy, or questions about their shared future.
Premarital Counseling
A place to talk intentionally about expectations, communication, conflict, family, finances, intimacy, culture, and the life you’re preparing to build together.
Affair Recovery
Support for couples working through the impact of an affair, making sense of what happened, rebuilding emotional safety, and deciding what comes next.
Betrayal Recovery
Support for couples navigating breaches of trust and the emotional aftermath of betrayal, with space for both healing and honest conversations about the relationship’s future.
Finding the right therapist shouldn’t be another thing you have to figure out alone
Finding a therapist can involve a surprising number of decisions. You may be wondering which kind of therapy you need, whose experience fits your concerns, or simply who you might feel comfortable talking to.
